Ebola Preparedness and Disaster Drill at NIID
The National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) conducted an Ebola Preparedness and Disaster Drill on 25 August 2025 to strengthen institutional preparedness and response capacity.
The drill focused on enhancing isolation practices, improving staff knowledge and practical skills, and strengthening infection prevention and control measures. It also provided an opportunity to identify gaps and further upgrade the NIID Disaster Management Plan, including emergency response and coordination among relevant units.
The exercise contributed to strengthening NIID’s readiness to respond effectively to Ebola and other high-consequence infectious disease threats.

Inauguration of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Training and Research on Dengue Case Management
The National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Training and Research on Dengue Case Management on 26 June 2026. The ceremony was held with the participation of Hon. Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Health and Mass Media, senior officials of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, representatives of the World Health Organization, healthcare professionals, researchers, and members of the mass media.
The establishment of this WHO Collaborating Centre at NIID strengthens the Institute’s role in advancing training, research, knowledge sharing, and evidence-based dengue case management. The Centre will serve as a platform for capacity building and collaboration among healthcare professionals and institutions, contributing to improved dengue prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and patient care in Sri Lanka and beyond.
